How long does it take to heal from pneumonia?

How long it takes to heal from pneumonia should be determined by the causative organism, the patient’s physical condition, and the treatment, and cannot be generalized. Depending on the causative organism, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and atypical pathogens, pneumonia can be cured in most cases with a course of treatment of about two weeks. For specific bacteria, drug-resistant bacteria, clinical treatment is more difficult, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Aspergillus, the course of treatment may be several months to more than years. Depending on the physical condition of the patient, the time to cure can be shortened if the patient is young and strong and has no underlying structural lung disease. If the patient has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis, interstitial fibrosis, etc., pneumonia complicated on top of that base is treated less effectively and for a longer duration. Patients with pneumonia should pay attention to a light diet, increase the intake of high-quality protein, eat more vitamin-rich foods, and consult a respiratory medicine department immediately if they are unwell.
