How to differentially diagnose jaundice

The differentiation between jaundice and pseudo-jaundice is as follows: 1. Pseudo-jaundice is mainly caused by patients eating food containing carotene, which can cause yellow skin, such as carrots and tomatoes; pseudo-jaundice yellow skin but not yellow eyes; or yellow sclera but not yellow skin; true jaundice yellow skin and sclera, and elevated bilirubin in the blood; 2. According to the symptoms, jaundice accompanied by fever, mostly seen in acute cholangitis, liver abscess, leptospirosis, sepsis, etc. Jaundice accompanied by severe pain in the upper abdomen, mostly seen in biliary stones, liver abscess, biliary roundworm. Charcot’s triad is characteristic of acute suppurative cholangitis. Jaundice is accompanied by hepatomegaly.
