Appendectomy requires several days of hospitalization

The length of stay after appendectomy is related to the surgical procedure and the patient’s recovery, and cannot be generalized. Appendicitis is an inflammatory lesion of the appendix caused by various etiologies such as fecal stone obstruction and infection, which manifests as metastatic right lower abdominal pain, abdominal distention, nausea and fever. Depending on the severity of appendicitis, the treatment varies. Since it is easy to recur after conservative treatment, appendicitis is mostly treated surgically, and its surgical treatment methods include traditional open surgery and laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is less invasive and has a quicker recovery, and you can generally be discharged from the hospital 2-3 days after surgery. The recovery of traditional incisional surgery is slower, and patients can be discharged from the hospital when the incision is basically healed in 5-7 days after surgery. However, the hospital stay can be prolonged in patients with perforated appendix, periappendiceal abscess, and septic peritonitis. In addition, after appendectomy, patients should pay attention to rest and follow medical advice to eat a light, easily digestible liquid or semi-liquid diet, and the stitches can be removed about 1 week after surgery.
