Can gastritis affect blood work?

Acute gastritis affects the blood count, while chronic gastritis does not show changes in the blood count. In patients with acute gastritis, especially if it is caused by a bacterial infection, most blood tests will show elevated white blood cells and neutrophils, while in acute gastritis caused by a viral infection, white blood cells and neutrophils will be normal and lymphocytes will be elevated. In the case of chronic gastritis, in most cases there are no changes in the blood count. Acute gastritis mostly has clear causes, such as improper diet or after taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and there may be symptoms of acute gastritis caused by heavy alcohol consumption, while chronic gastritis refers to the presence of chronic inflammatory lesions in the gastric mucosa, and most clinical symptoms are not obvious. Whether it is acute gastritis or chronic gastritis, patients need to cooperate with their doctors to use medication when necessary.
