The nucleic acid test for HIV, which usually takes about a week to produce results, is a PCR test that detects the presence and level of HIV-RNA in the patient’s blood, and is relatively accurate, detecting HIV-RNA in the infected person’s body 7-10 days after infection. Therefore, in our country, the quarantine of blood is tested for HIV nucleic acid to determine whether the donor is infected with HIV. Nucleic acid testing is also performed on patients with confirmed HIV infection to determine the level of viral load, and antiretroviral treatment should be started immediately after diagnosis.
