Macular degeneration self-examination methods

The Amsler grid is a ten-centimeter by ten-centimeter grid with a white dot in the center. The grid helps to detect early signs of macular degeneration, including wet age-related macular degeneration and macular hemorrhage or fluid accumulation due to deep myopia (six degrees). However, it is not a substitute for regular detailed eye examinations by an ophthalmologist. How to use the Amsler scale for self-examination: 1. Place the scale at a distance of 30 cm from the horizon, with sufficient and even light. 2. If you have glasses, you should wear your original glasses for the examination. Elderly people should also wear presbyopic glasses for examination. 3. Cover the left eye with your hand and gaze at the white spot in the center of the grid with your right eye. 4.When gazing at the central white spot, find that the white line in the center of the grid or other areas of the grid is bent, broken or deformed, or some parts of the grid are blurred or vacant, it may be a problem in the macular area of the fundus, and you should see an ophthalmologist for a detailed examination as soon as possible. 5. Repeat the above steps for the left eye.
