How long does it take for macular degeneration to heal on its own?

Most of the macular lesions cannot heal on their own, and a few macular lesions, such as central plasmacytoid chorioretinopathy, may heal on their own, usually in about three months. Central plasmacytoid chorioretinopathy belongs to a kind of macular lesion, which is commonly found in young people and is mostly triggered by exertion or fatigue, alcohol consumption, etc. Due to the macular edema caused by leakage, patients with mild cases can heal themselves by improving their living habits, such as avoiding excessive fatigue, not staying up late, regular work and rest, and strengthening exercise. In addition, patients can also take medications to activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis under the guidance of doctors, which can help them recover quickly. In the case of macular edema caused by retinal vein blockage, or diabetic retinopathy, or macular edema caused by neovascularization in the macular area, patients usually need active treatment to recover, and there is no self-healing. Therefore, once a patient has macular degeneration, it is recommended to visit an ophthalmologist in a timely manner to clearly determine whether corresponding treatment is needed, taking into account the patient’s condition.
