The understanding and treatment of macular degeneration in Chinese medicine

In my clinical work in Chinese medicine ophthalmology, macular degeneration accounts for a certain percentage of seekers. Macular lesions include central plasmacytoid chorioretinopathy, central exudative chorioretinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular cystoid edema, highly myopic macular hemorrhage, macular preretinal membrane, and cone cell dystrophy. The main manifestations of macular degeneration are: loss of vision, blurred vision, black shadows in front of the eyes, distortion of vision, and smaller vision. This disease is a difficult eye disease to treat, some patients have been untreated for a long time, and they seek treatment from many hospitals. The treatment of macular degeneration in TCM requires a combination of identification of the disease and identification of the righteousness, and the implementation of evidence-based treatment. For the hemorrhage, edema and exudation in the macula, the treatment effect is often better. Through active treatment, most of the hemorrhage and edema can be absorbed and subside. However, for the degenerative foci and mechanized foci in the macula, there is nothing we can do, and it is good if we can control the further development of the disease.
