What is the cause of swollen and painful fingers?

Swollen and painful thickening of the finger may be seen by an orthopaedic surgeon if there is a clear history of trauma, accompanied by restricted movement and pain.
If the patient has skin lesions, localised skin redness, increased skin temperature, pain and swelling of the finger, suspected to be caused by infection, they may seek medical attention from general surgery and dermatology. If accompanied by morning stiffness, joint pain, fever and weakness, rheumatoid arthritis is suspected and may be seen in the rheumatology department of a regular hospital.
