Helping seniors with pain relief: low back and leg pain

Elderly people often have back and leg pain, most of the time caused by lumbar disc herniation, but more often it is caused by a variety of reasons for lumbar spinal canal narrowing spinal stenosis, which “intermittent claudication” is the most notable, very short distances after walking can be seen in the lower back and legs, forcing patients to limit the scope of daily activities, social function is also greatly affected. Theoretically, surgical enlargement of the spinal canal is the most effective way to treat this condition. However, the elderly often combine this kind of kind of disease, such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, osteoporosis, gastric disease, liver and kidney dysfunction …… or one or two or more kinds of, and some are even tumor patients. Patients and their families are concerned about the choice of surgery, worried about the risk of surgery, worried about postoperative rehabilitation, worried about the cost, worried about …… Many older people will refuse surgical treatment, which is an indisputable fact. What about pain? Here is a good case study. Old man Huang is an old-timer in our medical profession, and despite his age of 87, he is still quick and rigorous in his thinking. He had recurrent right-sided low back and leg pain for more than 2 years, with symptoms worsening for 3 months, and intermittent claudication was obvious. MR examination suggested that there were herniated discs in L2/3, L3/4, L4/5, and L5/S1, with a huge herniated disc in L4/5. In addition to a history of asthma for more than 50 years, the old man had hypertension, coronary artery disease, gastroesophageal reflux, osteoporosis, and left hip replacement surgery 13 years ago. Long years at home, hands away from the crutches, frequently running to the hospital in a number of departments, go out must first take painkillers. In early July this year, Mr. Huang went to the pain department of our hospital, and after some nerve block and neuromodulation treatments, his pain was slightly relieved, but then recurred. In August, he started to use TS free radical treatment without drugs. After two treatments, he no longer needed crutches at home, no longer needed painkillers when he went out, and his activities were much better than before. The follow-up consolidation treatment made the old man feel more satisfied, and he further requested to use this “green” method to treat his peri-shoulder pain, and the result was also very good. The old man appreciated and was happy to share his joy with us, and happily took a photo with his treating doctor (the picture below has been published with the consent of Mr. Huang himself). With the world’s population exceeding 7 billion, the aging society requires us to pay more attention to the problems of the elderly, especially health issues. Spring flowers will bloom, health to come back! Solving the pain problem takes the brunt.
