How is xanthoma of the eyelid treated?

Xanthomas of the eyelids are the most common type of yellow tumor, presenting as soft, polygonal, orange papules and plaques on the upper and lower eyelids and inner canthus, with no conscious symptoms, slowly increasing in size over months and years. Most cases are not associated with hyperlipidemia and are mainly seen in adults over 50 years of age. Those with hyperlipidemia have an increased risk of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. However, more than 50% of patients do not have abnormalities in lipoprotein metabolism. Traditional methods of treatment such as: surgical excision is more damaging; freezing takes several times and is not ideal. The author uses the 2940 handpiece of the Feiden laser to treat lid xanthomas of the eye with good efficacy, controllability, short recovery time, and no scarring.
