What do I need to pay attention to after the pediatric commercial ring externalization method (which requires ring removal)?

Please return to the hospital on the 14th, 28th, 90th and 360th day after surgery. Some children refuse to urinate due to fear of pain, so they should be encouraged to urinate.

There will be yellowish-white discharge from the glans on the 2nd day after surgery, this is not pus! This is a normal recovery process and there is no need to worry.

Children’s glans are more sensitive and obvious when touching their underwear, so it is recommended to wear wide underwear or skirt; or make a simple homemade penis cover using disposable paper cups.

A small amount of bruising may appear at the root of the penis, which is due to subcutaneous bleeding after injection of local anesthesia and will subside on its own.

Avoid strenuous exercise, playful fighting to prevent bleeding caused by premature de-circumcision.

After surgery, the child may refuse to urinate due to fear, so the child should be encouraged to urinate.

Normal bathing is allowed on the second day after surgery. No special protection is needed for the episiotomy site.

After surgery, spray the episiotomy site with benzalkonium chloride antiseptic solution 2-3 times/day, and blow dry with cold air after spraying.

Important! If there is more glans discharge after surgery, start warm water soaking for 15-20min on the 6th postoperative day; remove the ring on the 7th postoperative day, soak in warm water for 15-20min before removing the ring, continue to disinfect with benzalkonium chloride solution after removing the ring, once a day, keep the prepuce incision dry until the wound heals.

Post-operative pain management: Oral disulfiram tablets or depilatory tablets 0.5 capsules~1 capsule/time, try not to take them on an empty stomach.

Compound lidocaine ointment is applied to the glans.

The following conditions require immediate return to the hospital: bruising and loss of sensation in the glans.

Heavy bleeding that does not stop on its own.

Severe pain that cannot be relieved.

Difficulty in urination, and the commercial ring falls off by itself.

Post-operative follow-up: Please return to our department for ring removal on the 7th day after surgery (e.g. if you have surgery on Monday, you will return to the inpatient department for ring removal on the following Monday morning).

Before removing the ring, you need to soak in warm water for 15-20 minutes to soften the foreskin blood crust and secretions and to reduce the pain and discomfort when removing the ring (bring your own water basin and water cup).
