Can gastritis cause swelling and pain in the back?

Generally, gastritis does not present with back distension. Most patients mainly present with diffuse upper abdominal burning pain, vague pain, distension, and heartburn, with episodes before and after meals. Some patients will feel bloated, especially with a distinct feeling of fullness after meals. If gastritis is accompanied by GERD, the patient will have back distention and pain. Patients with gastric ulcers and duodenal bulb ulcers can have back pain, and patients with acute attacks of chronic cholecystitis often have back pain in addition to right upper abdominal pain. In addition, localized fasciitis and lumbar muscle strain can also present with back distension. It is recommended to go to the hospital for gastroscopy as well as X-ray radiographs to clarify the diagnosis.
