Foot cast bathing method

There are many ways to bathe after the patient’s foot is put in a cast, you can put a plastic bag on the casted foot or elevate the casted foot to bathe, you can choose the method according to your situation and the nature of the cast. At present, there are two main types of plaster used in clinical practice, one is the old plaster bandage, plaster powder smeared on the bandage to play the plaster, this kind of plaster once the water will become soft and lose its effect, this kind of plaster should try to avoid getting wet. The other is polymer plaster, wetting will not cause the plaster to fail or become soft, but it is not easy to dry after wetting, the inside is uncomfortable and easy to cause odor, so after the patient’s foot is put on the plaster, try not to wet the plaster when taking a bath, nor can the plaster be removed and installed again after bathing, which has an effect on the fracture fixation effect. Patients can use a plastic bag over the upper cast, attached to the part of the leg, can be taped to the skin or tied to the leg with a ligature to firmly absorb the plastic bag into the leg, so that it is not easy to get into the water, at the same time, patients try to raise the leg when bathing, do not let the water flow down the seam into the cast. Of course, there are other ways, no need to put something on the foot, other people help the patient to elevate the leg, do not wash the place with the cast, other places can shower and rinse to avoid water flowing into the cast along the leg. If the patient has a polymer cast on the foot and accidentally gets a little wet in the shower, use a hair dryer to blow and dry the water, which usually does not affect the fixation effect.
