Why do you cough at night and not during the day?

Some people with coughs may have a very bad cough at night, while getting better or even not coughing during the day. This may happen for the following three reasons. 1. The environment where you rest at night, where the air does not circulate. Some cough patients close the windows when they sleep, resulting in dirty indoor air. During illness, the throat and bronchi are more sensitive than usual and are more susceptible to outside influences. For patients with this cause of cough, just advise them to open the windows to allow the exchange of indoor and outdoor air. 2. According to Chinese medicine, during the night, the body’s blood qi runs to the lung meridian. After that, the blood qi will repair the lung meridian. During this process, normal people don’t feel much, and people who already have a cough will have a worse cough. If you usually smoke, the cough will be a little more severe. 3. When a person stays in a supine position, the abdomen and diaphragm will lift upward, allowing the lungs to move with some restriction. When sleeping at night, many people adopt a lying down position. As a result, coughing at night can be more severe than during the day. In addition to the above reasons that make coughing worse at night, there is also the possibility of asthma. If you feel tightness in your chest when you cough, you should think about whether you have asthma. If you feel very troubled by coughing at night, consult your doctor and use medication to reduce the symptoms.
