To take or not to take the plate of the third ankle fracture

A triple ankle fracture is a fracture of the medial, lateral, and posterior aspects of the ankle joint that requires surgical treatment with an incisional repositioning plate internal fixation. After the fracture heals, the plate should be removed, but some patients can be considered not to take it out, such as patients who usually do not move much and are older, which will not cause the corresponding stress shading and will not cause the wear and tear of the plate, so it can be left out in this case. For younger patients, who exercise more and usually carry more weight, it is recommended to take it out, because if not, too much exercise and heavy load will easily cause stress masking of the corresponding bone, resulting in poor bone recovery and osteoporosis. Over time, it will cause the plate to break, resulting in complications such as re-fracture or deformation and collapse of the ankle joint. After the third ankle fracture, the plate should be taken or not taken according to the specific situation.
