Triple ankle fracture is a serious type of ankle injury, a comprehensive type of injury with fractures of the inner, outer and posterior ankle, mostly caused acutely after violent trauma, such as fall injuries, car accident injuries, violent blows and other factors. Patients may present with ankle pain, significant swelling, subcutaneous ecchymosis and bruising, as well as ankle flip deformity and loss of ankle stability with obvious signs of dislocation.
Clinical treatment is aimed at restoring the stability and function of the ankle joint. Treatment is mostly surgical, manipulative revision and adjunctive medication, together with standardised rehabilitation exercises, to promote ankle recovery. In addition, treatment must be thorough to prevent re-fracture due to poor joint recovery.
