Is a tricuspid fracture serious?

A triple ankle fracture is a more serious type of fracture in the ankle area, and surgical incision and repositioning is usually the preferred option after a fracture occurs, especially for posterior ankle fractures involving 25% to 30% of the articular surface, which must be promptly anatomically repositioned and internally fixed to prevent the development of traumatic arthritis. A posterior ankle fracture involving 30% or more of the inferior tibial articular surface will result in posterior displacement of the talus during dorsal extension of the ankle joint.
However, if the fracture mass involves less than 1/4 of the articular surface, the anterior tibial articular surface is large enough to provide a more stable weight-bearing surface and the talus can be held in the correct position, the prognosis is relatively good. It is therefore important to seek early medical attention after a triple ankle fracture has occurred.
