The duration of patella fracture surgery needs to be based on the type of fracture and the degree of fracture comminution. For a simple transverse fracture, the surgery takes about 1.5 hours. For comminuted fractures, the surgery time sometimes takes 3-4 hours. The recovery time after patellar fracture takes about 3 months. The common treatment method is patellar tension band, which can be used for low weight-bearing activities with crutches after surgery, with a weight-bearing capacity of about 20 kg, which can be increased by 3-5 kg every week, to promote the healing of the fracture. After the fracture is completely healed, the crutches can be removed for full weight-bearing activities. From the preoperative period, ankle joint exercises, ankle plantarflexion and dorsiflexion, and isometric contraction of the quadriceps should be performed to promote blood circulation in the lower limbs and prevent muscle atrophy, thus shortening the postoperative recovery time and reducing complications.
