How is middle cerebral artery stenosis treated?

The middle cerebral artery is one of the main blood supplying arteries to the cerebral hemispheres. The main cause of stenosis is atherosclerosis, thickening of the intima or plaque formation that gradually reduces the inner diameter of the vessel. For more than 50% of middle cerebral artery stenosis, it is necessary to receive appropriate treatment. If the symptoms are mild, oral medication can be used and long-term monitoring can be considered for interventional treatment once the stenosis worsens, while for patients with significant symptoms or severe stenosis, active treatment with stent endovascular angioplasty or balloon dilation is recommended. Among them, stent endovascular angioplasty has certain advantages, but if the cerebral vessels are very tortuous, balloon dilation and shaping of the stenosis can also achieve better results.
