Skin malignancies can present with clinical manifestations of subcutaneous nodules, such as squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and cutaneous lymphoma, etc. In addition to symptoms of subcutaneous nodules, these patients may also present with skin ulcers, erosions, necrosis, bleeding and weight loss.
It is important to note that not all subcutaneous nodules are caused by malignant tumours. Proliferative skin diseases and benign tumours are also common causes of subcutaneous nodules, including lipomas, dermatofibromas, smooth muscle tumours, epidermal cysts and pyogenic granulomas.
When a patient presents with a subcutaneous nodule, there is no need to be overly anxious and nervous. The doctor will make a definitive diagnosis based on symptoms, signs and findings, especially tissue biopsy.
