Myopia correction for adolescents N many misconceptions

Myopia is a topic of concern for all of us. How to prevent it, how to get an accurate prescription, and how to treat it? We have found that there are some misconceptions about the prevention and treatment of myopia, and many parents have been lured by some unscientific remarks and commercial advertisements in the society, delaying the treatment of myopia in their children. Myth 1: Dilated eye exams are harmful to the eyes In fact, dilated eye exams do not cause harm to the eyes, and the pupils can return to normal on their own a few days after dilating. The eye exam for adolescents requires dilated pupils, which means that eye drops are used to paralyze the ciliary muscle and dilate the pupil, eliminating the need for adjustment. Dilating the pupil not only prevents over-regulation of the ciliary muscle, but also avoids pseudomyopia caused by regulatory spasm. This is especially true for young children or elementary school students, as it helps to obtain an objective indicator and make the prescription more accurate. Relying solely on computerized results for glasses without dilated eye examinations can cause a lot of harm to a child’s eyes. In mild cases, the myopia is not accurate, and in severe cases, farsightedness is treated as myopia. Many parents think that the earlier they wear glasses, the higher the prescription will be and refuse to get glasses for their children.
In fact, after wearing the right glasses, not only will not make the degree deepen, but also can stop or reduce the development trend of refractive error. The reason is that when you wear glasses, the external image can be clearly focused on the retina, so you don’t need to adjust too much, thus reducing the burden on the eyes themselves. In addition, the retina will not get normal visual stimulation for a long time, there will be poor development, and the corrected visual acuity will be lower than normal when you want to get glasses again, resulting in amblyopia. Myth 3, myopia can be cured in a short period of time In order not to affect the child’s learning, some parents in the child suffering from myopia, always like to treat myopia during the winter and summer holidays for it. Many unscrupulous businesses also take advantage of this psychology of parents, claiming that a certain method or instrument can cure myopia within a month or even ten days, leading many parents to be deceived. In fact, the prevention and control of myopia is a long-term process, any short term surprise treatment is unlikely to cure myopia. For myopia, prevention is at the top of the list. When reading, keep a distance of about 30-40cm and do not use your eyes for too long. It is recommended to look into the distance after 40 minutes or so to relax the adjustment. In terms of treatment, once myopia is determined to be more than 1 degree, frame glasses should be fitted promptly. After a rigorous eye examination, you can be fitted with keratoplasty lenses if you meet the indications for keratoplasty lenses.
