If a 9-month-old baby has a cough, take him/her to the hospital for a blood test to see if there is an elevation of white blood cells. If there is an elevated white blood cell level, it is a bacterial infection and the child needs to be treated with azithromycin, the dosage of which should be according to the weight standard. If there is no elevation of white blood cells, most of the cases are viral infections and the child should be given Four Seasons Anti-Viral Combination or Pudilan Anti-Inflammatory Oral Solution. If the child’s cough is not relieved or worsens while taking the medicine, he/she should go to the hospital immediately.
