How many years can glaucoma surgery last?

Glaucoma surgery mostly lasts from six months to more than 20 years, and the exact duration of maintenance depends on the type of glaucoma, the type of surgery, and the daily care after surgery. Details are as follows.
If patients choose laser iridotomy, the surgical effect is maintained for a relatively short period of time, usually within 5 years, and in a small number of patients the surgical effect only lasts about half a year; if patients choose to undergo trabeculectomy, trabeculotomy or glaucoma drainage implantation, the surgical effect is maintained for a longer period of time, and most patients can maintain it for more than 5 years; some patients with better daily care can maintain it for more than 20 years.
Patients who smoke and drink heavily, have reversed day and night schedules, are irritable and do not take good care of their daily routine after surgery can drastically curtail the therapeutic effect of glaucoma surgery.
