Is glaucoma surgery a major surgery?

Glaucoma surgery is the larger surgery. At present, our country divides the surgery into four levels based on the riskiness, complexity and technical difficulty of the surgery, with level one being the smallest and level four being the largest. Traditional glaucoma surgeries, such as glaucoma drainage and trabeculectomy, belong to the third level and are relatively larger surgeries.
Strictly speaking, the difficulty and complexity of glaucoma surgery is not very high, but the disease is risky and prone to blindness, so glaucoma surgery is categorized as a tertiary surgery.
There are many different types of glaucoma surgery, and some relatively conservative surgical procedures, such as laser peripheral iridoplasty, laser peripheral iridopexy, and laser trabeculoplasty, are classified as minor surgery because they are simple, quick, safe, and can be performed multiple times.
