How long does it take to recover from small bowel hernia surgery

The recovery time of small intestinal hernia surgery is related to the type of hernia and the mode of surgery, and cannot be generalized. Small intestinal hernia, i.e. inguinal hernia, includes types such as reversible hernia, refractory hernia and incarcerated hernia, etc. Different types of inguinal hernia take different surgical approaches and have different recovery times. If incarcerated hernia occurs, or even necrosis of the incarcerated part, the surgery may be more complicated and the recovery time after surgery is longer. In addition, there is also a relationship with the patient’s age. Pediatric patients are usually operated with high ligation and can get out of bed on the second day; older patients may need hernia repair and can leave bed after one week, and heavy physical activities should be avoided for 3 months after surgery to avoid recurrence. Patients with increased abdominal pressure after inguinal hernia surgery are prone to inguinal hernia recurrence, and the presence of factors that increase abdominal pressure such as cough, constipation, and chronic cough should be avoided.
