Women with breast discomfort should be examined in a timely manner, especially when fluid or blood is found in the nipples or when a lump is touched. However, there are some points to be noted: nipple discharge, blood spill and breast lumps should be seen as soon as they are detected, while common breast pain and discomfort should be avoided during the days of menstruation, as the physiological changes of the breast during menstruation may affect the doctor’s judgment of the physical examination and ultrasound results. Regardless of whether the breast disease is an inflammatory manifestation of redness, swelling and pain, or a lump with no obvious symptoms, do not squeeze the breast repeatedly and roughly on your own. Inappropriate touching may aggravate inflammation or promote the spread of tumor, and do not apply topical application such as earthen remedies on your own before consulting a doctor. In the past, national health authorities as well as clinicians have recommended self-examination for women, but the results of more than ten years of observation have not shown any significant benefits. Most female patients are not professionally trained and often use the “grab and go” technique during self-examination, so any woman who is not too thin may mistake the slightly thickened and dense glandular tissue in her hand for a “lump”. If there is a blocking sensation or an obvious outline of a lump, then it may be a breast lump and you should seek medical attention immediately. It is recommended that a breast specialist be the first choice for medical examination, and ultrasound, mammography and MRI are usually available as adjunctive examinations. Ultrasound is basically suitable for all types of people and has a high degree of accuracy. Mammography is suitable for women over 35 years of age who do not have particularly dense breasts, and repeated examinations are not recommended, but only once every 1-2 years. MRI is more accurate than ultrasound and mammography, but is more expensive. The choice of the specific examination method should be based on the actual situation and doctor’s recommendation.
