After removal of the meniscus, it usually lasts about 5 years. The meniscus is a cushion of cartilage in the knee joint that acts as a cushion to reduce pressure and also to reduce wear and tear on the knee joint. When the meniscus is removed the body’s normal lines of force are altered and the joint gradually degenerates and wears out. Over time, the joint may become inwardly or outwardly deformed, and swelling of the knee joint may occur when walking or squatting with severe pain. As the disease progresses, osteoarthritis may occur, and in severe cases, artificial knee replacement surgery may be required, which is the most common complication after meniscectomy. Therefore, after meniscectomy, patients need to take better care of the knee joint, first of all, avoid running and jumping, not to go up and down stairs, avoid squatting, pay attention to the warmth of the knee joint; at the same time, avoid walking on uneven roads, and do more strength exercises for the quadriceps to help increase the stability of the knee joint, in order to prolong the life of the knee joint.
