How long does acute tonsillar suppuration cause recurrent fever?

Acute tonsillitis with suppuration is likely to result in chills and high fever, which can reach a temperature of about 39-40°C. This fever may recur for more than 5-7 days if not treated with sensitive anti-infective drugs. If sensitive anti-infective medication is given, the duration of the fever will be shortened and the fever may cease to occur after 2-3 days. Patients with acute suppurative tonsillitis may also be given antipyretic drugs to help reduce fever symptomatically during anti-infective treatment, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen orally or indomethacin pessary anally, and glucocorticoid drugs such as aminopyrine, lysergicin, or even small doses of dexamethasone intravenously to help reduce fever.
