Coughing at 2 a.m. is a nocturnal cough, which is caused by the disruption of the individual’s sleep state. This condition is commonly associated with respiratory diseases, such as acute attacks of chronic bronchitis, mostly seen in wheezing bronchopneumonia, acute attacks of cough variant asthma, bronchiectasis of various causes combined with significant infections, and acute pharyngitis due to inhalation stimulation by cold air, fumes or other pathogenic microorganisms. In this case, blood tests, pulmonary function and allergens should be performed if necessary to clarify the diagnosis and provide timely symptomatic and etiological treatment.
