With the onset of summer, some people experience significant sweating in exposed areas of the body. In fact, this is often a pathological condition, medically known as “hand sweating”, “head and face sweating” or “axillary sweating”; it seriously affects the quality of life of this group of people. Due to nervousness or noisy head and face sweating, they are afraid to show their faces in public social occasions, afraid to give speeches on stage; due to severe sweaty palms, they are afraid to shake hands with others, or ashamed to hold hands with lovers; sweaty armpits wet clothes make young girls embarrassed; when writing sweat wet paper; when operating a computer sweat wet keyboard …… can say Due to these exposed parts of the sweat, seriously affects many people’s emotions, social, career choice and even marriage. In recent years, with the improvement of people’s standard of living and their requirement for quality of life, the number of people actively seeking medical attention because of hyperhidrosis is increasing. There are no exact statistics on the incidence of hyperhidrosis for the Chinese population. However, statistics from Taiwan show that on average, 3 out of 1000 young people have apparently severe hand sweating. Cases of hand sweating are also quite common among adolescents in China, especially in the coastal areas of southern China such as Fujian, Guangdong and Zhejiang. Traditional treatment of hyperhidrosis Unless there is a clear underlying disease, such as hyperthyroidism, excessive obesity and neurosis, which can be accompanied by hyperhidrosis, most cases of hyperhidrosis have no clear cause and are therefore also called “primary hyperhidrosis”. Because the pathogenesis of hyperhidrosis is unknown, there are a variety of treatments for hyperhidrosis. Traditional treatments include biofeedback, hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, sedation, anticholinergic receptor drugs, Chinese herbal medicine, topical astringent treatment of the skin at the sweating site, or radiation therapy. However, all of these treatment options do not have very positive therapeutic effects. The long history of unsatisfactory treatment results has led many people to fear and various incorrect understandings of this disorder. Some people believe that it is a genetic problem that cannot be treated; others believe that it means that they are “weak” and take a lot of “supplements” for this reason, but in the end, it does not help; others believe that it is because they are introverted and timid. Some people think it is because they are introverted and timid, so they appear to be dripping with sweat when they get to the lectern or other public places. Whether or not this is true, it does add to the psychological burden of these sweaty friends. Thoracoscopic treatment for hyperhidrosis – thoracic sympathetic nerve chain dissection The advent of television thoracoscopy has brought about a milestone in the treatment of hyperhidrosis. Thoracoscopy is a modern medical technology based on television imaging and cold light source technology. Through a small 0.5 cm incision in the chest wall and a TV thoracoscope placed in it, the surgeon can clearly see the sympathetic nerve chain located in the paraspinal area. The patient requires a short hospital stay of 2-3 days to undergo the necessary tests before the procedure. The surgeon stands on the patient’s side and first makes a small, hidden 0.5 cm incision in the chest wall under the axilla, and places a thoracoscope inside so that the surgeon can see the chest cavity and the sympathetic chain located next to and parallel to the spine on a TV screen. Through another small incision in the chest wall of similar size and some special instruments, the surgeon can complete the sympathetic chain dissection in about 5 minutes. After the surgery on one side, the other side is operated on using the same approach. The total operation time is less than half an hour. The patient was able to move around the same afternoon after the surgery. The patient can be discharged the next day. The patient can go to work within a week at the most. There is basically no scarring on the chest wall after the wound is removed. Even if there is some scarring, it will not affect the aesthetics because it is located in a hidden place like under the armpit.
