Generally speaking, most patients with ovarian tumors should be treated surgically once they are diagnosed, depending on the nature of the tumor, the patient’s age, whether they have fertility requirements and the condition of the opposite ovary. For benign ovarian cysts, young patients can have the cyst removed or unilateral adnexal resection. This is because some benign ovarian cysts have the possibility of recurrence. If the cyst is less than 5 cm, it is suspected to be an ovarian tumor-like lesion and can be monitored for a short period of time. However, if the cysts are cystic or have papillary structures in the middle of the cyst, and CA125 is elevated, the patient should be operated as soon as possible in a hospital with gynecologic oncologists and gynecologic malignancies to avoid delaying the diagnosis and treatment.
