Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) regimen for bronchitis

Bronchitis belongs to the category of “cough” in traditional Chinese medicine, and commonly used prescriptions include Er Chen Ping Stomach San, San Zi Nourishing Family Soup, Qing Jin Hua Phlegm Soup, Sha Shen Maimendong Soup, etc. The treatment is to dry dampness and dissolve phlegm (to remove phlegm from the body by drying dampness medicine). 1. Phlegm-dampness in the lungs: treating by drying dampness and removing phlegm (removing phlegm by drying dampness), regulating qi and relieving cough. The representative formula is Er Chen Ping Stomach San combined with San Zi Nourishing Family Soup. Er Chen Ping Stomach San is composed of Fahan Xia, Chen Pi, Poria, Licorice, Atractylodes Macrocephalae and Hou Pu; San Zi Nourishing Relatives Tang is composed of Bai Xiao Zi, Lai Xiao Zi and Zi Su Zi. 2. Phlegm-heat and lung depression: the treatment is to clear heat and resolve phlegm, purging the lung to stop cough. The representative formula is Qing Jin Hua Phlegm Tang. This formula is composed of Sang Bai Pi, Scutellaria baicalensis, Gardenia, Zhi Mu, Zhe Bei Mu, Psidium guajava, Platycodon grandiflorus, Orange red, Poria cocos, Ophiopogon, Glycyrrhiza Uralensis, and Glycyrrhiza Uralensis. 3. Lung yin deficiency (insufficient yin fluid in the lungs): the treatment is to nourish yin and clear away heat (nourish yin fluid and clear away heat), moisten the lungs and stop cough. The representative formula is Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang. This formula is composed of Radix Panax Ginseng, Ophiopogon, Smallpox Pollen, Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati, Mulberry Leaf, White Lentil, and Glycyrrhiza Uralensis.
