Questions about coughing

Recently, there have been a lot of inquiries about coughing on the website, so I will briefly talk about coughing in the hope that it will be helpful for your treatment.        Coughing itself is a normal physiological reflex to remove foreign bodies from the airways and is only a symptom. There are many causes of coughing, and almost all respiratory diseases can cause coughing. Usually, cough is medically classified into 2 major categories: one is cough with problems on chest X-ray, such as pneumonia, bronchitis, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, etc. The second is cough with or without problems on chest X-ray. There are numerous diseases in this category, including upper respiratory tract pathologies, including various causes of pharyngitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, etc., cough variant asthma, gastroesophageal reflux, eosinophilic bronchitis, allergic cough, drug-induced . We usually see the second one, because the first one can be diagnosed after an examination, while the second one, especially the cough caused by the first few factors, is difficult to clarify its cause, and in most cases a series of tests cannot clearly diagnose it. Therefore, in some cases, treatment is based on the patient’s symptoms and the doctor’s experience. The treatment is a combination of anti-allergy drugs.        Some people wonder the question: since so many minor factors cause cough, is it possible to ignore it and it does not matter anyway. The answer is no. The reason why a cough should be examined carefully is that there are numerous causes of cough and without examination you will not know which one is the cause. The only way to analyze it medically is to have a test done to address that test. This is why some cough patients need a bronchoscopy. This is because no current examination can replace a direct visual examination of the airway wall.       Some coughs are associated with asthma. It may be an atypical manifestation of asthma, known medically as “cough variant asthma”. This atypical asthma has increased in recent years because the incidence of asthma in China as a whole is increasing, with statistics showing that there are 20-30 million asthmatics in China and 300 million asthmatics worldwide. The treatment of this type of asthma without wheezing is the same as that of asthma, and many patients will develop typical asthma later.
