Proper understanding and treatment of fatty liver

The liver is an important site of fat metabolism. When the liver’s ability to synthesize fat increases or its ability to transport it into the blood decreases, lipids (mainly triglycerides) accumulate excessively in the liver, exceeding 5% of the liver’s weight, which is called fatty liver. In recent years, due to the improvement of living standards, diet structure and lifestyle have changed greatly, fatty liver has become the second most common liver disease after viral hepatitis, and the detection rate of fatty liver is increasing and has reached 10% of the average population (17% in some cities). Although fatty liver is a benign lesion, the incidence of fibrosis is as high as 25% and the incidence of cirrhosis is about 1.5%. Once cirrhosis occurs, the prognosis is the same as that of general cirrhosis, i.e., ascites, varices, gastrointestinal hemorrhage may occur, which can seriously lead to death. Fatty liver treatment 7 misconceptions ① Fatty liver is not a disease . Some people do not take fatty liver seriously, thinking that it is not a real disease, it does not matter if you see a doctor or not, and there is no need to treat it at all. Fatty liver can develop into cirrhosis, and the original digestive/detoxification/secretion functions of the liver are then lost. ② Excessive worry. Contrary to the former, once diagnosed with fatty liver by a doctor, you will be terrified, and you will seek medical advice everywhere. It is important to know that mental factors have a very important impact on health, and excessive worrying is not only not beneficial to the condition, but also adds new diseases, which is not worth the loss. ③ Over-treatment. Since the treatment of fatty liver is a considerable medical market, a large number of drugs for the treatment of fatty liver expand their influence through advertising, using the most attractive rhetoric to win the trust of fatty liver patients. According to rough statistics, about fifty percent or so of fatty liver patients have over-treatment problems. ④Loss of weight by fruits and vegetables. Patients with obese fatty liver blindly lose weight by fruits and vegetables only, but long-term over-eating fruits and vegetables while ignoring high protein and low fat leads to elevated blood sugar and blood lipids instead, and even induces obesity. Patients with fatty liver should follow the diet pyramid. The daily balanced intake of various nutritional elements on this basis, to maintain a balance between intake and consumption. ⑤ Fatty liver cannot be cured. Some people pessimistically believe that fatty liver is impossible to cure. It is true that there is no panacea for fatty liver at home or abroad, but simple fatty liver is an early lesion, and if we can take timely measures the fat deposited in the liver will slowly decrease to completely subside. The main treatment is non-pharmacological and requires a lifelong commitment to long-term exercise and correction of poor diet and lifestyle habits. (6) Lipid-lowering drugs can cure fatty liver. If fatty liver is not accompanied by hyperlipidemia, it is not necessary to take lipid-lowering drugs. If you have fatty liver and hyperlipidemia, you need to use lipid-lowering drugs at the discretion of your doctor according to the cause and degree of hyperlipidemia. Do not use lipid-lowering drugs without permission, otherwise it will also cause drug-related hepatitis. (7) Take a lot of enzyme-lowering drugs. Some patients with fatty liver with elevated transaminases take a lot of enzyme-lowering drugs. In fact, the increase of transaminases is mainly related to obesity. Studies have shown that for every 1% reduction in body weight, transaminases decrease by 8% and the enlarged liver shrinks and fatty liver is reversed. Even the application of hepatoprotective and enzyme-lowering drugs is not effective. At present, fatty liver is a “rich disease” after the solution of food and clothing, what people lack is not nutrition but exercise, and what is urgently needed is not medicine but scientific lifestyle. As long as we do the prevention principle of “eat less, move more, drink less and use drugs carefully”, don’t blindly follow the advertisements and get out of the above 7 misconceptions, we can effectively control the increasingly serious epidemic situation of fatty liver. The right way to prevent and treat fatty liver: fatty liver treatment experts advocate the use of comprehensive treatment. Remove the causative factors: must avoid alcohol, high fat, high cholesterol, fried and baked food; stop using drugs that can cause fatty liver, such as tetracycline; if you have diabetes should be actively treated. ② Eat in moderation: adjust the unreasonable dietary structure and consume anti-fatty liver foods (such as fungi, garlic, onion, ginger, soybeans, tea, etc.) regularly. ③Increase activity: adhering to a moderate amount of aerobic exercise for more than 150 minutes per week is the most effective measure. ④Medication: For some patients, especially those with concurrent liver function damage, fatty liver treatment can be applied under the guidance of doctors. ⑤ Prevention and control of fibrosis: patients with combined fibrosis and cirrhosis, apply anti-fibrotic drugs.
