General fasting for a few days for intestinal obstruction

It is generally considered that intestinal obstruction requires 2-3 days of fasting, and if the symptoms of intestinal obstruction cannot be relieved after fasting, surgery is usually recommended. Intestinal obstruction is a series of clinical syndromes caused by the inability of intestinal contents to pass smoothly through the intestinal lumen. The main manifestations are abdominal pain, abdominal distension, nausea, and cessation of bowel movement. Treatment includes fasting and gastrointestinal decompression. If the patient is incomplete intestinal obstruction, after 2-3 days of fasting, the intestinal edema subsides and defecation is normal, in this case the patient can be advised to take liquid food. If the patient has complete intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal decompression is required, and the recovery period is relatively long, taking about 1-2 weeks. If the symptoms do not improve after the end of fasting, surgical treatment needs to be considered. It is recommended to pay attention to the diet after the end of fasting, eat more light and liquid food, and do not eat greasy food.
