Clinically, for cases with insufficient bone height to consider dental implants, bone augmentation surgery is generally performed, such as distraction osteogenesis, bone grafting, and maxillary sinus lift.
1. Bone grafting: Bone grafting utilizes autogenous bone or allogeneic bone implanted into the area that needs to be augmented to induce osteoblasts to form bone, so as to achieve the purpose of bone augmentation.
2. Traction osteogenesis: Traction osteogenesis is the use of a distraction device to apply slow and steady traction to the cut bone to promote the regeneration of bone and related tissues to increase the role of new bone.
3. Maxillary sinus lifting: Maxillary sinus lifting is a surgery for the lack of bone height in the maxillary molar area, using knockout internal lifting or maxillary lateral wall sinus window to increase the height of the maxillary sinus floor.
Too little bone can be implanted, but bone augmentation surgery is required before implant placement.
