The so-called “snoring” is formed because the airflow into the nasal and oral cavities is obstructed, so any obstructive factor in this may cause snoring. The common nasal causes include narrowing of the nasal passage due to enlarged turbinates and deviated septum, as well as obstruction of airflow caused by enlarged adenoids at the posterior nasal orifice; and common oral causes include enlarged tonsils and a flaccid soft palate in obese children. It is worth pointing out here: normal children have physiological enlargement of tonsils for a period of time at the age of 5-6 years, and it will degenerate at the age of 9-10 years, while children before the age of 4 years should consider their congenital enlargement if their tonsils are swollen and frequently and repeatedly inflamed during normal examination. The snoring starts at a very young age. If a child has been snoring for a long time, he or she will have insufficient air intake and sometimes apnea, which will cause lack of oxygen to the brain and affect the intellectual development; long-term open-mouth breathing will also cause malformation of the teeth and change the face, so after determining the specific cause, treatment measures should be taken in a timely manner, such as surgical removal of adenoids and tonsils, to avoid affecting the child’s development in all aspects.
