In October 2015, the American Cancer Society (ACS) released the 2015 update to its breast cancer screening guidelines for women at average risk. Women at average risk for breast cancer should have regular mammography screenings starting at age 45. Women aged 45-54 years should be screened annually. Women ≥55 years of age should be screened biennially, and if conditions allow, annual screening can be maintained. Women aged 40-44 years should be given the opportunity to be screened once a year. Women in good health with a life expectancy of ≥10 years in the future should continue to be screened with mammography. The American Cancer Society (ACS) does not recommend clinical breast exams for breast cancer screening for women of any age at average risk.
