Disease Type】Hyperhidrosis
Hospital】Wuhan University Central South Hospital
Date of consultation】July 2019
Treatment plan】Oral medication (oxybutynin hydrochloride tablets) + injectable medication (botulinum toxin type A for injection)

【Treatment effect】The symptoms of hyperhidrosis basically improved after standard treatment
I. Initial consultation
The patient, male, 40 years old, reported abnormal sweating on the back, waist and hands recently. A few days ago, I bought and took herbal medicines to nourish Yin, but the symptoms did not ease or even worsened, so I came to our hospital for consultation. After listening to the patient’s description, I conducted an examination and found that the patient had an abnormal increase in sweating on the hands, back and other parts of the body without any cause, and the surrounding skin was not broken or papular.
II. Treatment history
The patient had no previous underlying pathology, and no abnormalities were found after completing imaging and routine blood tests. However, during physical examination, it was found that the patient’s back, waist, hands and other parts of the body showed an obvious increase in sweating, and some skin surfaces were white due to sweating. The patient was prescribed oxybutynin hydrochloride tablets to inhibit the continued secretion of sweat, and after discussion with the patient, i.e., the family, Botulinum toxin type A for injection was used in conjunction.
III. Treatment effect
After treatment, the patient’s excessive sweating was improved and relieved more obviously. After 2 weeks of systematic treatment, the patient was emotionally stable, in a good mental state and the excessive sweating in the back, waist and hands was improved, and after 3 months of follow-up, the patient said that the abnormal excessive sweating basically subsided and achieved the effect of clinical cure. The patient was satisfied with the effect of this treatment and paid attention to daily care after the disease improved, and no significant recurrence of the disease was seen.
IV. Notes
We are glad that the patient’s hyperhidrosis was effectively treated, but we also need to advise the patient to pay attention to keeping the skin clean and fresh in daily life and to wash it regularly. It should also be noted that the daily toiletries used should be as mild and non-irritating as possible to prevent aggravating the damage to the skin, and try to wear clothes with good ventilation; ensure a balanced and sufficient nutritional intake, rest on time, exercise moderately, combine work and rest, and maintain a relaxed or happy mood to promote the improvement of the disease.
V. Personal insight
Hyperhidrosis is easy to be ignored, and most people mistakenly think that excessive sweating on the body is due to high temperature, but it is not. In this case, we can see that hyperhidrosis can affect or interfere with daily life and the discomfort is more obvious when anxiety is present, and patients also seek medical attention promptly after discovering their discomfort symptoms. Therefore, it is recommended that if you find yourself in a situation where you have abnormal sweating or increased sweating, you should seek medical attention immediately and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
