As we age, atherosclerosis is bound to occur.
Vasosclerosis is essentially a degenerative change in the function of blood vessels, with irreversible fibrosis and hardening of blood vessels with age. However, the degree varies from person to person.
A number of risk factors can accelerate the process of atherosclerosis, such as smoking, lack of exercise, obesity and mental stress.
Some chronic diseases can also aggravate such hardening changes, such as hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidaemia.
