What to know after cataract surgery

After the surgery, there are usually gauze and eye shields to cover the operated eye for one night, go back to the ward to rest quietly.

1, 1-2 hours after surgery may have a foreign body feeling, the next day after removing the gauze may have flying mosquitoes, these are normal phenomena. (Note: flying mosquitoes is caused by vitreous turbidity, due to the postoperative visual field becomes clear, the original vitreous turbidity at once become clear, for simple mild vitreous turbidity is not yet better treatment, can not be dealt with, if continue to significantly aggravate, it is necessary to consult a doctor.)

2, avoid touching the operated eye, you can walk in the ward, read a book, watch TV are no big deal, but do not be too tired.

3, avoid dirty water into the eye, wash towels need to be wrung out, and do not rub the operated eye hard for one month after surgery. You should be especially careful when washing your hair and bathing for 1-2 months after surgery to avoid dirty water.

4.No need to wear sunglasses, but because the transparency of the crystal increases, the light enters the eyes more, and some patients feel that the light is too strong, they can wear sunglasses.

5.No need to avoid mouth.

6.A mixture of antimicrobial + glucocorticoid eye drops should be used after surgery to fight inflammation and prevent infection. Take D&B (tobramycin + dexamethasone eye solution and eye ointment) as an example: for the first three days after the operation, the eye solution should be ordered every two hours (about 6 times/day), and the eye ointment should be applied at night before going to bed (squeeze 1cm long to the conjunctival sac); for the next three days, the eye solution should be changed to 4 times/day; for the next week, it should be changed to 3 times/day; for the next week, it should be stopped after 2 times/day; the eye ointment should be stopped for two weeks after the operation. Or according to the post-operative review, use according to the doctor’s prescription.

7. Check your vision and both eyes every day after surgery until you are discharged from the hospital. If the recovery of vision is extremely unsatisfactory, your refractive media will be transparent at this time, and your doctor will do further examination for you to see if you have fundus lesions, etc. and proceed to the next treatment.

8.A week after discharge from the hospital ophthalmology outpatient review and regular follow-up, if there is discomfort, you should immediately see the doctor.

9.Lens prescription time: for those who need presbyopic and myopic eyes after surgery, generally speaking, the situation of the operated eye is relatively stable three months after surgery, and the reversible astigmatism basically disappears, so the prescription can be relatively stable at this time. However, there are some patients who still have changes in the refractive error of the operated eye six months after surgery.
