It may be because the elderly are misled by previous concepts or fear of surgery. In clinical practice, we often see some elderly patients whose vision has declined to the point where they can only see the shadows of people and their lives are seriously affected before they come for surgery. The longer the cataract grows, the harder the nucleus will be, while the capsule and the suspensory ligament (which need to be protected during surgery) will become more and more brittle, and the more energy is needed to emulsify the harder cataract, the more heat will be generated and the damage to the surrounding tissues such as cornea, capsule and suspensory ligament will increase.
2. It takes a very long time for cataract to mature, and patients have to live in a hazy world for a long time, which affects their quality of life.
3. After cataract occurs, it will affect the examination of the fundus, and the combined fundus disease (such as glaucoma, diabetic fundus disease, macular disease, etc.) cannot be detected at an early stage, and cannot be treated as early as possible.
4. When cataract is “mature”, the chance of complications such as secondary glaucoma, crystal dislocation, uveitis, etc. will increase. Therefore, if cataract is diagnosed and you feel blurred vision, you should have an early surgery.
