How long does it take for herpes pharyngitis to clear up?

Healing of herpes pharyngitis usually takes 4 to 7 days with individual variations. Herpes pharyngitis is most common in children and is characterized by fever, sore throat, difficulty in swallowing and herpes in the pharyngeal region. The grayish-white herpes is about 1~2mm in diameter, surrounded by a red halo, and can be located on the soft palate, palatine, and tonsils. 2~3 days later, the halo increases in size, and the herpes may break out to form an ulcer. Most cases of herpes pharyngitis are mild, with fever lasting 2 to 4 days and recovery taking 4 to 7 days. In a small percentage of cases, meningitis or febrile convulsions may occur, and children may have high fever, recurrent convulsions, lethargy, and frequent vomiting. Severe cases require hormone and immunoglobulin therapy, and the illness may last up to two weeks or longer, with individual variations. Herpes pharyngitis can be cured by itself in mild cases, but if the child has poor mental status, convulsions, frequent vomiting, etc., it is recommended to actively consult the doctor to avoid delaying the disease and causing serious consequences.
