How to give first aid for a seizure

Most seizures are associated with unauthorized withdrawal of medication or brain injury. First aid for seizures is divided into out-of-hospital seizures and in-hospital seizures. The most important first aid is to give the patient a flat position with the head to the side and a towel placed between the upper and lower teeth, in order to keep the airway open, avoid choking and biting the tongue. Specific first aid treatment can be divided into the following points: 1. out-of-hospital seizures 1. transfer the patient to a safe place to lie down, untie the collar and belt, etc.; 2. turn the patient’s head to the side and clean the airway, maintain a clear airway, avoid asphyxiation and accidental aspiration; 3. place a towel between the upper and lower teeth to avoid tongue bite, if there are dentures, remove them in time; 4. If the seizure stops within 5 minutes, let the patient lie down and rest in place. If the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, treat the patient as a continuous status epilepticus and immediately send him to the hospital for treatment or call the 120 emergency number; 6. The patient should also observe the patient’s consciousness, pupils and changes in vital signs during seizures, and pay attention to the specific manifestations of seizures, such as whether the head is tilted and whether the limbs are stiff. Patients should take their medication on time according to medical advice and not stop it on their own. Try not to engage in high-risk occupations, such as drivers, and try not to participate in high-risk activities, such as mountain climbing, swimming, etc. If there are signs of seizures, sit down and rest in a safe place in time, or seek medical attention in time to prevent accidents. Second, in-hospital seizures in-hospital seizures can be treated with benzodiazepines as prescribed by the doctor, including lorazepam, diazepam, midazolam and so on. The most commonly used in China is diazepam injection (Valium injection), the vast majority of good results, can be repeatedly injected, but need to pay attention to the risk of respiratory depression, need to be prepared in advance for tracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation. When the effect is not good, intravenous midazolam, propofol and other anesthetic drugs can also be used.
