Can cholecystitis cause chest pain?

Patients with cholecystitis can experience chest pain. When acute inflammation of the gallbladder occurs, pain, distension, nausea, and vomiting in the gallbladder area with reflex chest and back pain may occur. In older people who have little or no pain sensation or who are unresponsive, it may only manifest as significant chest pain. In addition cholecystitis can cause the patient to experience intense nausea and vomiting, leading to bile reflux, which can also irritate the esophagus causing chest pain. When a patient develops cholecystitis, it is important to clarify gallbladder ultrasound and gallbladder CT as soon as possible to clarify the cause of the occurrence of cholecystitis, and treat accordingly to alleviate the patient’s pain. In addition, chest pain may be caused by other reasons, and must be identified under the guidance of specialized physicians to avoid delays.
