The clinical presentation of both is relatively similar, with cognitive impairment and visual hallucinations.
In terms of cognitive impairment, in early Lewy body dementia compared to Alzheimer’s disease, the patient maintains relatively good recall of things and recognition, while in visuospatial function and executive function is worse.
In terms of visual hallucinations, dementia with Lewy bodies is more severe. Specific differentiation can be made on the basis of clinical presentation, neuropsychological scales and ancillary tests.
Disease progression in dementia with Lewy bodies is generally more rapid than in Alzheimer’s disease.
