Epilepsy is the second major group of neurological disorders with complex etiology and seizure symptoms, and for a long time was considered incurable. It was not until the nineteenth century, when sniffing compounds and barbiturates began to be used with success in the treatment of epilepsy in England, and the twentieth century with the advent of electroencephalography, that the concept of epilepsy diagnosis and treatment in the modern sense really began. The diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy requires more specialized knowledge and multidisciplinary cooperation, especially in the preoperative evaluation. In order to provide patients with more specialized care, epilepsy centers have been established in recent years in countries around the world. They are not only responsible for the clinical treatment of epilepsy patients, but also carry out a lot of basic and clinical research, and are training bases for epilepsy specialists, greatly promoting the development of the epilepsy field. The Epilepsy Center of Sanbo was established with the experience of the world’s top epilepsy centers (e.g. Cleveland Epilepsy Center, Epilepsy Center of Lyon Medical School in France, Shizuoka Epilepsy Center in Tokyo, etc.). In addition, the center is actively developing teaching and learning programs. In addition, the center also actively develops teaching and research work, and carries out a lot of basic and clinical research while taking charge of the treatment of epilepsy patients. Every year, we train epilepsy doctors and host or participate in epilepsy conferences at home and abroad, greatly promoting the development of the domestic epilepsy field. With a high starting point, advanced departmental settings and treatment concepts, and comprehensive development of medicine, teaching and research, Sanbo Epilepsy Center is one of the few most authoritative centers in China that integrates epilepsy treatment, scientific research and teaching, comparable to the world’s top epilepsy centers.
