There is no special diet for patients with SLE. As long as there are no food allergies, there is usually no need for contraindications. Patients with SLE usually take hormones for a long time, which may cause excessive elimination of potassium and retention of sodium in the blood, resulting in swelling. Therefore, patients should have a light diet with low salt, low fat, high protein and more fruits containing potassium, such as bananas, apples, oranges and tomatoes. However, patients with renal failure should not eat foods with high potassium content and high protein foods. Patients with lupus erythematosus who have diabetes also need to limit staple foods and sweets.
