What do children with thyroglossal cysts/fistulas need to know after surgery?

  If your child has a thyroglossal cyst and has successfully completed the surgery with the joint efforts of you and your doctor, we are sincerely happy for your child’s condition.  After you go home, I hope you will keep the following precautions in mind and follow them strictly. The doctors and parents should work together so that your child can recover as soon as possible. After going home, make sure to keep the wound neck wound clean to avoid infection, and review and remove the stitches 7 days after surgery. Outpatient follow-up 1 month after surgery. If you observe any uncomfortable symptoms such as hoarseness, breath-holding or difficulty in breathing, fever, swelling, fluctuating sensation and pain in the neck and bilateral jaw area, painful swallowing or difficulty in swallowing, please bring your child to the hospital immediately.  Thyroglossal cyst is a congenital developmental malformation in children, and surgical removal is the only thorough treatment. However, since the disease has a high chance of recurrence after surgery, you need to be alert to the possibility of recurrence. After the child is discharged from the hospital, the cooperation efforts of the child, the doctor and the parents are needed in order for the child to recover at the fastest speed.
